Beulah's obituary
The life and Legacy of Beulah Elaine Walker
Beulah was born to Lloyd and Zettie Carpenter on January 17th 1930 in Cloutierville, Louisiana in Natchitoches Parish. She was the second child of twelve born to that union. She had 7 brothers, and 4 sisters. Her siblings Eulah, Alma, Lang-G, Lonnie, Grant , Joseph, Lincoln, and Lloyd preceded her in death, as did her parents and a son, Donald ray king. Her brother Gilliam and sisters Mary and Glenda survive her.
Beulah called her young self a “Tomboy” who loved to fish, play and have adventures with her brother Lloyd, and their cousins in the swamps surrounding their “Carpenter quarters” home. She told stories of how she had to defend her siblings from someone who picked on them, or from someone who they had picked on. Mostly coming to the rescue of her brother Lloyd.
Beulah accepted Christ at an early age; she was baptized and attended St. Mary’s church in Natchitoches Parish. Beulah was always an avid reader and was known as a “bookworm". She attended Saint Augustine Elementary School in Natchitoches Parish.
When the family moved to the city, she attended Winn Parish Training School in Winfield Louisiana where she was an excellent student, and on the Girls Basketball Team.
In 1950 Beulah came to Los Angeles, California and in 1953 she met John McKee Walker “Johnny” and they later married . In 1958 Johnnie’s job was transferred to Sacramento, California-and the family made the move. After a lengthy illness, Johnnie passed away in 1960.
Sometime later, Beulah found love again with M.T. Walton and the family moved to Michigan City Indiana. After about five years the family returned to Los Angeles, California where Beulah pursued her AA degree and her nursing credentials. She worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, California for 30 years, and in 1996 retired. She then went to work at Los Angeles International Airport for 7 years and then permanently retired and moved to Visalia California.
Beulah loved the Lord and would often praise him spontaneously. She also loved her outings to the Casinos, watching the game shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and she enjoyed watching Basketball and Football. She was an excellent cook as anyone that tasted her food can attest to, and she loved spending time with Family.
Beulah always had an encouraging word for young people, especially her grandchildren, and she always stressed education. Her Mantra was: “How are you doing in school, how are your grades, and what college are you going to”? Her motto for living as we aged was “just keep moving”.
She was gregarious and never met a stranger. She loved to laugh, and make others laugh. She touched many lives during her 94 years.
