Betty's obituary

Betty (Thomas) Vanderbeck, 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 20th at Monroe City Manor Care Center.

Betty was born October 4, 1933 in Huntsville, Missouri to parents, Arnold and Sarah Thomas. On March 24, 1951 she married Bob Vanderbeck. This young marriage started in a General Store in Arkansas and grew into 73 impressive years of companionship. They had  3 children; Ronald "Doc", Douglas "Doug", and Delores "Tweety."

Along with being a dedicated mother and homemaker, Betty also spent much of her life working with her husband, developing multiple businesses. Bob may have been the face of these projects, but Betty was certainly the backbone that kept everything running. From a thriving contracting business to a country music opry/restaurant/motel complex, they worked as a team to make their dreams come true.

Betty was a loving, faith filled woman. She valued family and spent many years of her life making amazing meals and spoiling family members with as many Christmas gifts as she possibly could. Her homemade candy was second to none and although she's passed down the recipes, none will ever compare. She enjoyed reading and will always be remembered by her grandchildren for her creative bedtime storytelling.  She was a reliable and admirable matriarch who will be missed very much.

Betty is survived by her son, Douglas (Karen) Vanderbeck; daughter, Tweety Lay;  6 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Ronald (Rose) Vanderbeck; grandson, Trevis Vanderbeck; her parents; brothers JG (Louida) Thomas, Donnie (Lyda Sue) Thomas, Jr. (Dorothy) Thomas and Norman (Vicky)Thomas; sister, Nettie Lena (Kenneth) Switzen; and son-in-law, Walter Lay.

The family will have a private graveside service at the Huntsville Cemetery at a later date. Bob and Betty's cremains will be laid to rest alongside their son and grandson.
