Betty's obituary
We said good-bye to our beloved Betty on September 28. She was a very kind and thoughtful mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. Betty had the ability to make everyone around her feel loved and accepted whenever they were in her presence. She loved life and was most happy celebrating it with her family and friends. She was a very determined lady who never gave up, despite the circumstances.
Betty was born to Ed and Elvina Mayne on October 20th, 1928. She had beautiful golden ringlets and was a very loving little girl, always looking out for her brothers and sisters. She was a student at West High School in Salt Lake City. She often told memories of her father, who was always bringing home stray or injured animals or children who needed shelter and a hot meal. She also talked fondly of how her father was in charge of the Boys home in Salt Lake City, Utah and often laughed about the pranks her brothers would play on one another. Her mother was the President of the Women's Democratic Club in Salt Lake City.
She met her husband, Brigham Daniel Scott, while working in a restaurant as a waitress. Time passed and she met him once again while working as a successful real estate agent in Salt Lake City. Brig carried a picture of her in his wallet for many years after their first encounter, stating that she was the one he would someday marry. Betty eventually became one of his employees at his engineering firm, Scott Investments. They were very fond of each other for many years and married on December 8th, 1962, and were sealed in the Arizona LDS temple on March 5, 1970. After her husbands’ death in 1983, she never remarried, often explaining that no one could ever replace her adoring husband. They were very much in love and were a great example of unconditional kindness and compassion to everyone they knew.
Betty was a wonderful cook, having learned from her father, and would present her loved ones with meals whenever she had visitors. She loved gardening and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, often hosting tea parties and serving the best french fries ever. She was very generous to others and was always caring for those around her when they needed her. Betty also founded the Arizona Festival of Trees, benefitting vulnerable youth.
Betty was the last remaining of nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons Craig and Jack and daughter, Christine. Her children Jacquelyn Tina and John, both died previously to her passing. She also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. We all will miss her presence in our lives and present her lovingly to her family and friends who have passed on prior to her death. Betty will always be close to our hearts and minds and we hope to carry her legacy of love and compassion.
