Betty's obituary
She joined the civil service during WW11 and was stationed at Barber's point, on Oahu, Hawaii, where she met Aldin Sampson. They married in June of 1946 and moved to Big Fork, Minnesota, where they managed a resort for two years.
Aldin then went to the University of Minnesota to learn botany. In 1952 they moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota where they bought and managed a greenhouse until 1983.
Betty was very involved in the greenhouse, and one of her specialties was macrame plant hangers, and she always had vases of beautiful flowers all over the house.
They worked in the greenhouse six months of the year. When the season was over, the family piled into the station wagon to visit places like Yellowstone National Park (the earthquake of August of 1959 happened while they were there.)
The family spent many happy summers camping at Bass Lake near Effie, Minnesota.
Betty loved to travel and she and Aldin went on a cruise to Alaska. They also went to exotic places like Tahiti, Hawaii and Africa, where they went on a hot balloon ride over the Serengeti.
She also made trips to Italy to see her grandson, Cody, who was becoming a world renowned sculpter.
Betty loved to knit and crochet and she made many beautiful afghans and sweaters for the family. She also taught her granddaughter, Jennifer, how to knit and crochet, which led to Jennifer's successful career designing crochet patterns, and authoring two books on crocheting.
She loved to sit on her swing, and by the fire at Coyote Howls RV Park in Why, Arizona.
She was preceded in death, by her parents, and husband Aldin, and son, Dennis from Seattle, Washington.
She is survived by sons, Merle and Glenn from Minnesota, daughters Claire Wilson and Lindy Swanson, and son Larry from Arizona.
She is survived by five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was 98 when she passed away. May she rest in peace. She will be greatly missed.
