Obituary
Betty J. Roberts Marsman Jones, 84, of Boston, MA and recently of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away surrounded by family peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Betty was born in Boston, MA in 1940 to James F. Roberts, Sr and Bertha E. Platt Roberts and was the sixth child and second daughter of fifteen children in the Roberts family. Betty attended and graduated from the Boston Memorial High School (later known as Boston Technical) before moving on to pursue a career in business where she owned and operated a data entry processing service.
Betty’s other employment endeavors led her to being a dispatcher for the Boston Police Department where she took pride in assisting others. A fastidious dresser with a keen eye for the latest styles, Betty owned and operated ‘The Covenant’, a high-end fashion boutique for women in the Mattapan section of Boston, offering the latest in designer clothing and accessories from around the world.
As a testament to Betty’s desire to help others she started a career as a caregiver for the elderly with Mr. & Mrs. Muzziof Needham, MA until their deaths. Betty continued this servant work when she relocated to the family home inPittsboro, North Carolina providing care for those in need. Betty subsequently retired to Port St. Lucie, Florida to be closer to her only child, Phillip L. Marsman, Jr.
Betty’s marriage to Phillip L. Marsman, Sr produced their only child, Phillip Jr. Betty’s second marriage to Anthony Jones ended in divorce of which there were no offspring. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr and Bertha Roberts, siblings Joseph, Martha Roberts Small, James Jr, Clarence, Shirley,Timothy, David, and Mark. Betty is survived by her son Phillip L. Marsman, Jr (Tracey Lewis-Marsman), grandsons Phillip L. Marsman, III (Shane Huggins- Marsman), Dion Marsman (Roxanna Simo), great granddaughter Minoa Loren Marsman, siblings Charles, Rosetha, Lawrence (Letha), Donna, Helen and Marlene (Craig Coleman).
Memorial services will be held at the Berea Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 108 Seaver Street, Boston, MA 02121 on Sunday November 10, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
