Betty's obituary
In Loving Memory of Betty Garner
October 7, 1953 – October 28, 2025
With heavy hearts and abiding love, we announce the passing of Betty Garner, who entered eternal rest on October 28, 2025, at the age of 72.
Born on October 7, 1953, in Austin, Betty carried the warmth and strength of her Texas roots throughout her life. She later made her home in Richmond, where she lived until her passing, surrounding herself with family and the life she built with love and devotion.
As the eldest daughter of six siblings, Betty was a natural leader, protector, and source of strength within her family. She set the example with responsibility, love, and determination, carrying that same devotion into every role she held throughout her life.
Betty lived a life centered on love, resilience, and quiet strength. She was the kind of woman whose presence brought comfort, whose words brought reassurance, and whose heart always made room for family.
She shared a beautiful and enduring love with her husband, Dan, her forever love, who preceded her in death on February 8, 2005. Their bond was one of deep commitment and lasting affection. Though she carried the ache of missing him for many years, her love for him never faded. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.
Her greatest pride and joy were her daughters — her oldest daughter, Tish Winn, and her baby girl, Carrie Castro. She loved her girls fiercely, guiding them with wisdom, protecting them with strength, and surrounding them with unconditional love.
Betty was also a proud and devoted grandmother. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Kailey Winn, Colin Torres, Zachary Winn, Hunter Michalsky, Jaxon Michalsky, Isabella Castro, Isaac Castro, and Avery Castro. She was blessed to see the next generation, her great-grandchildren, Elias Michalsky and Gracelynn Castro, who brought light and joy to her later years.
She was preceded in death by her precious baby granddaughter, Olivia “Livi” Faith Castro, who passed on July 30, 2024. The loss of Livi was a sorrow she carried deeply. Today, we find peace in imagining a tender reunion — her holding her sweet granddaughter in her arms once again.
Betty was the heart of her family — steady, nurturing, and full of grace. She created a home of warmth, laughter, and belonging. Her legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering love that will continue through every child and grandchild she leaves behind.
Though our hearts are broken, we know her love surrounds us still. It lives on in her daughters, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and in every life she touched.
Mom, your love is our foundation and you will live forever in our hearts.
Betty Garner will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
