In Memoriam

Betty Douglas (Bow Yok Chuck Eng), 89, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Born on December 29, 1934, and raised in Long Branch, New Jersey, Betty loved going to the beach, hanging out in New York City and eating seafood! She also loved to bake, cook, read, sew, go shopping, eat out at restaurants, attend musical theater productions, and tend to her vegetable and flower gardens. She also took great pride in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the rest of her extended family.

After graduating from Long Branch High School, Betty attended Muskingum University (Ohio). Betty first met her husband Billy J. Douglas at the local roller-skating rink in Redbank, New Jersey. Several months after they met, Bill was deployed to Turkey with the Army. About two (2) years passed and they both reconnected when Bill found Betty while she was still attending college. They soon married on June 29, 1953, and would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year.

Betty is survived by her best friend and husband, Billy J. Douglas, daughter Barbara Gable (and husband Dave, children Mark (and his daughter Ainhoa) and Jennifer (and her daughter Jessica); daughter Carol Sheetz (and husband Pat, children Rebecca, Eileen, and Kai); son Wesley Douglas (and wife Robin, and son Spencer), son Richard Douglas (and wife Claudia, children Emily and Jessica); and daughter Stephanie Ascencio (and children Victoria and Alexandra). She is also survived by her brother Henry Eng of Wolcott, Connecticut, nephew Tom Eng (and children Ethan and Bradley), nephew Michael Eng (and children Amelia and Calvin), and niece Sherrie Shover (and children Brody, Brooklyn and Bryce), and her brother Donald Eng of Lithia, Florida, (and nephew Bland Eng (and children Brandon and Ava).

Betty was preceded in death by her sister Annie, parents Shee Chuck and Alice (Hugh) Eng, and brother Young Eng of Southington, CT.
