Betty's obituary

Betty Juergens, of Mansfield, Louisiana was born on March 1, 1937, and passed at the age of 83 on August 24, 2020.

Betty was born to Warren and Jean Decker in Sayer, Pennsylvania.

Betty and her first spouse Donald Smith, met in Dade City, Florida, and they wed in Mansfield, Ohio. They were blessed with three children, Nancy Jean, Patricia Marie, and Donna Kay.

After the birth of their third child, the family moved from Florida to Houston, Texas.

When Betty had her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being a devoted stay at home mother. With a soothing spirit, she excelled at calming and supporting family and friends through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was supporting her spouse throughout his career, her three daughters during their school years and throughout motherhood; or, a family friend with her calming spirit, she made it her mission to be supportive in touching the lives of others.

Our “Momma” as we called her, was a passionate seamstress. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found behind her sewing machine sewing dresses for her three girls and many a new Barbie doll outfit. She also sewed beautiful bridesmaid dresses. As well as Holiday, Church and Prom dresses for special occasions.

In retirement years, Dad and Mom moved from Texas to Mansfield, Louisiana opening and running a convenience store. They also traveled visiting family back home in Mansfield, Ohio. Due to dad's poor health, they later moved back to Texas, and resided with family until our Dad's passing in 1993.

in 1995, Mom married a second time to Marshall Juergens, a local resident of Mansfield. Mom and Marshall shared a fulfilling life on the farm, while raising a variety of small farm animals together. After Marshall passed on August 1, 2013, Nancy brought Mom to live with her and Paul at their lake house on Toledo Bend. Our dear “Momma“ lived at the lake house under Nancy’s loving care for seven years until the time of her passing. We are grateful for Nancy’s two youngest grandchildren Holley and Raven Juergens, living nearby, as they generously assisted Nancy with Mom's care during the difficult final Hospice days.

Even though we are rejoicing with Jesus in assurance for taking her home, we will miss her sweet smile and loving, motherly words of encouragement. Mom will be dearly missed.

Betty was predeceased in death by the following family members:
MOTHER AND FATHER, Jean Irene Decker and Warren Charles Decker.
SISTER AND BROTHER, Joan Waller and Warren Charles Decker, Sr., respectively.

Betty is survived by her three daughters (oldest to youngest):
Nancy McCain and Paul Lawhon of Mansfield, LA;
Patricia and Jeff Kilzer of Los Ojos, NM;
Donna and Billy Bodine of Cleveland, TX.

Betty leaves behind eight grandchildren (oldest to youngest):
Thomas, William, Michelle and Beau, children to Nancy.
Tamara, Ashley and Jordan, children to Patricia.
Billy Wayne, son to Donna.

Betty was blessed to have lived a long life which included many joyful family celebrations and memories. Betty lived to rejoice in the births of her precious great-grandchildren as well.

The family requests that all flowers or condolences are sent to her daughters. There will be a private family celebration of life at Nancy and Paul's home.
