Betty's obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Commander who departed on April 5, 2020. She was born on July 27, 1941 to Luther and Geneva Lee both deceased, and lived a long and fulfilling life. We remember Betty as a genuine and devoted mother, a caring wife, and a nurturing grandmother. Her spirit was as warm as her favorite color, red, and her heart as comforting as her favorite dish, Mac and Cheese.  She leaves behind a large loving family.

She is survived by her daughters Willie Mae Montgomery, Francesca Olden, Cheryl Commander, an Jennie Jones. Her sons William Commander and son-in-law Alvin Olden also survive her. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Darnell and Marilyn Moses of Foley Al, Carvies and Rachel Jones of Foley AL, Leroy Commander of GA, Kelvin Commander of Sumter SC, Marvin Montgomery of Sumter SC, William Commander jr of Wedgfield SC, Javon Miller of Sumter SC, Quandrecka Commander of Sumter SC, Sharnell Commander of Sumter SC, Quinten Commander of Sumter SC, Her sister Annie Gore, Jessie Harrell and Ozeta Herriott, brother Kelton Lee, sister-in-law Carrie Lee, and brother-in-law Marvin Harrell will remember her fondly.

She is predeceased by her husband William Commander, son Stevie Commander, siblings Dora Lee, Arthur Lee, Luther Lee, Willie Lee, Bobby Lee and Harby Lee.

After dedicating many years, she retired from U.S. Textile and Cover Mfg. in 2006. When she wasn't solving puzzles or cheering on contestants in Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, she enjoyed reading her favorite book, The Bible. Her song of choice was "Crazy over you", and she held a special place in her heart for the shows by Perry Mason. Although not an extensive traveler, she loved visiting family and spending time at Granny Neva's House. She was a firm believer in kindness and used her adoration for her kids and grandkids to spread love. Among her proudest accomplishments was successfully raising six children and creating a nurturing home for her family. Betty's legacy will forever resonate in her advice to "Don't start nothing you can't finish" and through her wonderful potato salad. She was a beacon of love and care, and will always be remembered as a loving and caring woman, mother, and wife.
