Betty Cecelia's obituary
Age 81 of Florida and California went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2019, after a longtime illness. Preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Cecelia Downs Heverley, she is survived by her children Dee (Bob) and Keith (Erica) and grandchild Reed. Betty was born in New York, raised throughout America, and graduated high school in Fort Pierce FL. She met and married Louis VanDorin, living in Indialantic, FL then moving to West Palm Beach, FL by 1972. Betty loved to sew and made Parisian Elegance patterned clothing with exotic fabrics. As a legal secretary she was a speed typist and took Gregorian Shorthand even at her final jobs at MSCPAC Oakland and MARAD SF, retiring Oct 2001. An adventurer, she lived many years in Japan and Egypt. She loved to drive down unknown sideroads for the treasures they held. In Hawaii she would explore while her daughter worked and reveal her finds on weekends. Betty's friends in Japan toured her many weekends to take photos and learn English.
She was an hard-working Mother who allowed her 2 children to be themselves. She reminded Dee nightly of her love with "Love You Like You See You in the Morning Nighty Night" (LYLYSYITMNN) which grandson Reed will recognize. She will be greatly missed!
