Betty's obituary
Betty Jean Brower was born on November 10, 1956, in Graham, North Carolina, and departed this life on February 17, 2025, while in hospice care in Ramseur, North Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Aline Clapp Jeffries, Walter Clay Sr., and Margaret Foster Clay, all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Brower and her brother, June Bug Clay.
Betty was a proud graduate of Eastern Randolph High School, where she played basketball. She went on to earn a degree in Business from Randolph Community College. She dedicated many years of service to BB Walker Shoe Company until its closure and later worked enthusiastically at Walmart in Asheboro until her health began to decline in 2017.
A woman of strong faith, Betty was a devoted and faithful member of Edwards Grove Baptist Church. She found comfort in her spiritual community and lived her life with kindness, humility, and love for others.
A passionate sports fan, Betty’s ultimate favorite team was the UNC Tar Heels, but her greatest joy was supporting any team her grandchildren played for, or went to college for. She had a heart full of love and generosity, always finding ways to celebrate and give to others throughout the year. Though she was a woman of few words, her kindness and thoughtful gestures spoke volumes.
On April 31, 1982, Betty married Jesse Lee Brower, with whom she built a life filled with love and family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion, cherished by her daughter, Paula Gales-Moore (Toni) of Greensboro, NC; her beloved grandchildren, Sherell Gales-Forsythe (Brent) of Greensboro, NC, Destinee Martin of Asheboro, NC, and Gavin McQueen of Asheboro, NC; and her children-in-love, Dexter Brower (Debora) of Burlington, NC, Darin Brower of Blanch, NC, Derrick Brower of Greensboro, NC and Regina Guess of Pittsoboro, NC. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Carolyn Clapp and Emma Boseman, both of Burlington, NC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Betty also had a deep love for her grandpups—Choppo, Rosie, Taco, and Brixx—whom she cherished like grandchildren. Their companionship brought her great comfort and joy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Randolph and Ramseur Health and Rehabilitation, especially Tina, Mary, and Kendra, for the compassionate care and love shown to Betty in her final days.
Betty Jean Brower’s love, kindness, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
