Betty Ann was born on February 26, 1928 to Dee and Elizabeth Tarpy in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had one sister, Ione Mae. They were very close and each raised four children. After graduating from high school Betty Ann went into nurses training and joined the Army Corp of Nurses during WW2. She then met Richard C. Jones and in November 1948 they were married. Enjoying the birth of four children Barbara, Sandra, Ray and Donna. They lived in Denver Co. where Richard opened up Tarpy Tailors, making custom made uniforms for commercial airline pilots. A business started by Betty Ann’s father Dee Tarpy in the 1930s. In 1962 they moved to Redondo Beach Ca. and opened up a Tarpy Tailors out by the Los Angeles airport. This became a very successful business and although Richard and Betty Ann sold the business in 2008 the name Tarpy Tailors is still around today lasting almost 90 years. Betty excelled in so many things and was a beacon in the South Bay. Passionate about supporting her family in all their activities including Speed Skating and bicycle racing and Girl Scouts. Richard and Betty loved to travel once the kids were grown. They enjoyed many trips to Europe but their favorite adventure was cruising. They totaled almost 100 cruises. Enjoying delicious food and dancing the nights away on board ship. They went every Friday or Saturday night to the Regency Hotel in Beverly Hills, until it closed and then to the Skyroom in Long Beach where once again enjoying wonderful food and dancing. Betty was passionate about family, as it was the most important thing to her. She always felt so blessed for the family that she had and how everyone loved and cared for each other. She never complained about anything. She valued life and the people in her life. Volunteering at the senior center and visiting those who couldn’t get out. We will miss her greatly.
