Bettie's obituary
“Haiti’s Angel” Bettie Snyder went home to be with her late husband Jackson and our Lord Jesus Christ on July 22. She died as a passenger in a car accident in Vero Beach, FL.
As missionaries to Haiti for 50 years, Bettie and her husband Jackson Snyder were the co-founders of Findlay’s “Mission Possible” with many outreaches in Haiti and other Caribbean nations, including schools, clinics, construction projects, missionary tours, Bible studies, fellowships, and feeding programs to the poor. Bettie was like a mother to countless orphans and a beloved friend to widows. After Jackson's death in 1991, Bettie continued to serve in Haiti, co-founding GLOW Ministries International (God’s Love for Orphans and Widows), a rescue mission to Haiti’s poorest. Bettie concluded her life as the President of Haiti’s Angels, where she was faithful to the very end, providing food and resources to the widows and orphans she loved so much.
A Findlay girl, Bettie was a varsity cheerleader at Findlay High School, a fashion model for Findlay’s Cooper Tires. Later, she started her own modeling school (Tres Chic) in Findlay. She was also the administrator of the Friendship Nursing Home in the historic house on 301 E. Sandusky St. Bettie will be remembered for her overflowing joy, generosity and optimism. She was quick with a laugh or a smile and always had a "little song" in her heart, often remembered from her mother. She was famous for dropping her phone just as she answered it and losing her car in the parking lot. In the last few weeks she often mentioned that she was ready to "go home."
Bettie was the daughter of Warren and Christine Bunts/Snyder. Her mother died in a car accident when Bettie was only 7, leaving her to be raised by her grandfather Philip Snyder and Pauline (Bailey). Bettie is survived by her sister Rosemary Sunderman, sister-in-law Jane Koehler and sons Jackson, Peter, and Phillip, and by her 14 grandchildren. Friends and family may visit at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 W Sandusky in Findlay, Ohio. A general visitation is scheduled for Friday night July 30. The funeral will be held Saturday July 31 at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside burial at Van Horn Cemetary in Vanlue. A reception, the location to be announced, will follow the burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a special Memorial Fund in her honor will be accepted and greatly appreciated as the legacy of Bettie's work continues.
