Bette's obituary
Bette Jo Rogers
March 21, 1947 to February 18, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Bette Jo Rogers announce the passing of the most kind, caring and unimaginably generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend on February 18th, 2023 @ 9:10 a.m. at her home in Bakersfield, CA., she was 75 years old.
Bette was born on March 21, 1947, in Borger Texas to Edward Elijah Kennemur of Borger Texas and Martha Opal Kennemur of Bowie Texas. She had three sisters; Beverly Jean, who passed before Bette was born to Scarlett Fever, Joyce, and Nadene. Bette’s father worked on the railroad and was transferred to California in the early 60’s and Bette followed. After moving to California, Bette met her first husband James Aaron Marchant, and they had a baby girl named Michelle Renee Marchant. Bette went on to beauty school and went to work at the Padre Hotel’s beauty salon. This is where she met her second husband, William (Bill) Herbert Rogers and they had a baby boy named Eric Jason Rogers. In later years, Bette went to work at Kern Bros. Trucking for one of her best friends and worked there until she retired. After she retired, Bette loved spending time with her great-granddaughter Riki Nicole Griffin. Then, after many years of no contact, Bette rekindled an old flame with Lynard Vance, a childhood sweetheart, and he was her loving companion up until her passing.
Bette truly loved walks on the beach collecting sand dollars and whole seashells and watching beautiful sunsets as the sun went down into the water. She also loved to travel, go on cruises, explore new places and eat different foods. Some of her favorite vacation spots were Mexico, Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She enjoyed crafting. She was always making something like little pom pom reindeer and ornaments at Christmas, T-shirts with your picture on it, flower arrangements, greeting cards, and jewelry. You name it, she probably made one. She also loved to watch TV. She had many shows she would record each week, so she didn’t miss anything.
Bette was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Jean her father, Edward and her mother, Opal. She left behind her daughter, Michelle Shannon, her son, Eric Rogers, her sister, Nadene Holifield and her loving companion, Lynard Vance. She also leaves many other family members and dear friends, as well as many distant others.
Services will be held Thursday March 2nd, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Garden of Faith at Greenlawn Northeast Memorial Park located at 3700 River Blvd in Bakersfield, CA. A visitation will be held Wednesday March 1st from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Slumber Room at Greenlawn Northeast Memorial Park located at 3700 River Blvd in Bakersfield, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lynard Vance.
As we all shed tears that she is gone, we can also smile that the memory of her life lives on in all of us and the impact she made in our lives will be forever cherished. So even though we are sad, and she is no longer here, today we will honor her memory by celebrating her life and all the great times we were so privileged to have had with her. She will forever be missed but never forgotten. We will always feel her presence in our hearts.
