Betsy's obituary
Betsy Wentz Helms, beloved wife, friend, mother, and grandmother (BeBee), passed away on January 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 68 years old.
Born on September 15, 1956, Betsy grew up in Charlotte, NC. She later settled in Mt. Gilead, NC on Lake Tillery where she built a life filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories. She was the devoted wife of Steven Helms and the proud mother of Josh Jackson (married to Shannon Jackson), and her bonus daughter Sarah Greene (married to Ricky Greene).
There was nothing BeBee loved more than her 4 grandchildren. Hunter, Hayden, Makinlee, and Dawson were her pride and joy. Though they will no longer have any more physical time on this earth with her, the countless memories and love she poured into them will live in their hearts and memories forever. Camp Bebee, spring break adventures, day trips, pool days, arts&crafts, and cooking together. She did it all with them. There was no better grandmother, and Betsy’s family was her greatest source of happiness and accomplishment.
Betsy was creative, nurturing, and the most gracious host. You would never come to her home and not leave stuffed from her delicious meals and made to feel like you were so very special to her. Holidays came alive through her touch and she always made them special. Her house was warm and always full of love and laughter. She had a magical green thumb and could grow something out of nothing and make it thrive. She grew some of the most beautiful tomatoes and vegetables.
Betsy was a friend to so many through the years. Countless girls trips, sleepovers, and traveling to new places were all things she enjoyed. Days spent out on the lake were her favorite. Watching the kids jump from the dock, floating in the cove, and evening boat rides with neighbors enjoying pizza and wine were beautiful times for her.
Betsy was always the life of the party and was a bright light for all that knew her. She will be so missed, but we find comfort in knowing she is free from all her pain and suffering and is able to rejoice with all that went before her. The family would like to thank her team of oncologist, the nurses and doctors at Atrium Health Stanly, and the loving ladies of Tillery Hospice care that made it their mission to ensure she was comfortable in her final days.
“Where there is deep grief, there was great love”
Betsy will be cremated, and celebration of life will be announced for a later date.
