Bertha's obituary

Bertha Martinez, 74, left earth on January 09, 2021 at 5:20pm in Miami, Florida with her family by her side. Bertha was born on January 29, 1946 to Andrea Ellie and Mecene Martinez. She had two sisters, Madeleine and Venus Martinez. She also had six brothers, Rene, Christian, Fritz, Gerald, Florence, and Carlos Martinez.

Bertha Martinez met her sweetheart, Serge Sr. in High school. After graduation, they decided to get married because they were in love. They bore three lovely intelligent children, Carline, Betsy-Ann, and Serge Jr. The family then moved to Florida in the ‘80s. Bertha then attended night school, so she can learn to speak and write the English Language. She also attended Garces Commercial College to learn Medical secretary/Sport-hands typing. Bertha worked as a typist, a child care worker, a substitute teacher, and a medical secretary. Bertha was blessed with five grandchildren in the early and mid ‘2000s. The birth of her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy as evidenced by always caring and spending time with them.

Bertha Martinez was a born again Christian who strongly believed in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. She was a Prayer Warrior and a Psalmist who loved to pray and give God praise. Bertha turned to prayers and hymns when she was happy and sad. Bertha’s favorite Bible scriptures were Psalms 51, 64, 78, 29, 65, 23, and 91. She used to recite and meditate on those Scriptures daily for forgiveness, protection, and strength. She also believed in heaven and hell. She said, “Hell is one place I won’t be, so don’t look for me there.” Bertha instilled in her children the Word of God because she believed that Jesus Christ was the only way to the Father. She taught her children and grandchildren how to live a Godly life through teachings as well as living by example.

Bertha Martinez’s interests included her husband, three children, and five grandchildren. She enjoyed praying, reading the Bible, walking, cooking, shopping, going to church, talking on the phone, and going to the gym. She dedicated much of her energy as a caregiver to her grandchildren because they were her world. Bertha was very generous and kind to everyone. Her favorite funny quotes were ‘Tete chaje’, which is a Creole phrase, ‘God help us’, which is an English phrase, and ‘Ah dios mio’ which is a Spanish phrase.

Bertha Martinez’s health failed due to prescription drugs which triggered multiple side effects that led to one illnesses or another. As years gone by, her health began to deteriorate. On January 09, 2021, Bertha passed away at 5:20 pm in her home with her family by her side. Her death caused major sorrow to her family, friends, and those who knew her. Bertha was the rock of her family. Her gentle voice when she speaks and sings as well as her gentle hugs will be missed.

Bertha Martinez is survived by her husband, Serge Sr., three children, Carline, Betsy-Ann, and Serge Jr. She left behind her grandchildren, Gabriel, Hannah, Brian, Jewel, and Sokipiriye. She also left behind cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends. Her gentle spirit lives on, and her legacy continues...🤍💐🕊
