Bertha's obituary

Bertha Marie Martin (Crissey), also known to her friends as Bertie, born September 28th 1927 went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 29th 2021. She passed peacefully and quickly at the age of 93 years 9 month old.

She was born to Roy J Crissey, and Anna Schillinger Crissey, in Johnstown Pennsylvania. She was the last living of 6 children.  She leaves behind 7 children: Robert Burgan, wife Donna; Jenny Little, husband Doug; Debby Demeo, deceased husband Donald Demeo; Jim Martin, deceased wife Karin Martin; Jodi Queer; Jackie Clancy, husband Mike Clancy, and Jeff Martin. She had 15 grand-children, 23 great grand-children and 3 great-great Grand-children.

We are honoring her today and celebrating her life and the fun person that she was. She loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. It would always amaze us that she sometimes couldn't remember what she had for dinner yesterday but she would always remember a good joke.  She loved painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and just crafting in any way and her penmanship was impeccable for all those years.  She could make something special out of some of the craziest things. She made many of her children's clothes when they were growing up.  My favorite was the Christmas tree ornaments made out of pine cones. They looked like baby mice, and every one of them took on a different personality.   She also made roses out of plastic spoons, she made them for all the people in her senior citizens building, and would have one to give for everyone with their birthday card.  In 2020, during the pandemic she made masks for everyone in the building as well. Her sewing machine wasn't working and she had made them all by hand.   She was always thinking of others.

She found the Lord as her Savior when her last 4 children were small. She spent a lot of time taking her children  to church and teaching them all about Jesus to become the Christians they are today. Mom loved Jesus and because of her faithful prayers and attending church, her children came to know the Lord, and she would always say “To pray and live for the Lord”.  She also loved playing games, Bingo was her favorite for years.  We loved it because she needed bingo money, and we needed help with our keeping up our house , and some of us needed babysitting, it was a perfect arrangement.  She loved playing Pictionary, Uno, Phase 10, Scrabble, Domino's, and many more. When the grand-kids would beat her she would accuse them of cheating.  Years later Sean (grandchild) confessed that he would be able to see grandma's cards reflecting in her glasses.  She laughed so hard after she finally knew what he had been doing all those years.  She was famous for her fruit cakes, they were her mothers recipe and the best ever. Most people that didn't like fruit cake, but loved hers, and all of her amazing homemade holiday feasts.  She was a very beautiful and talented woman. She was the best mother and grandmother a child or grandchild could ask for. We have many memories of her. Everyone that knows her has a story to make you laugh. We will be telling stories and laughing for many years to come.

She will be forever loved and missed by her loving family and friends until we meet again in Heaven!
