Bertha "Abuelita" Linares, 93 of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at a local nursing facility. 

Bertha was born on in 1928 to Roman and Maria (Sandoval) Linares. She attended private Catholic school, and following graduation, continued her education in college for two years. Bertha enjoyed being a housekeeper while in the workforce. 

Bertha touched many lives and the imprint she left on our hearts exceeds the quantity of time that she stayed here. 

Bertha was a loving and devoted Catholic in many aspects of her life. She was a master of cooking, sewing, and gardening, an avid nature lover who always made sure the birds had their seed.

When Bertha wasn't praying or feeding the birds, she could be found in her garden tending to her many plants. 

Bertha is survived by her daughters Lia (Greg) Hansen of Jackson, NE, and Barbara Bakkers of Sioux City, IA; sons Francisco (Evelyn) Mendoza of Sioux City, IA Rolando Linares (Gloria) of California; sisters Margaretta Diaz of California and Esther Linares of Las Vegas, NV; and countless grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Bertha was predeceased by her parents,Roman and Maria (Sandoval) Linares; and her son Raymon Linares.

Burial will be at Noon on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at St. John’s Cemetery in rural Jackson, Nebraska with Catholic graveside prayers recited. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is assisting the family.
