Bernice's obituary

>Bernice "Bernie" Maloney, 89, of Portland, OR, passed away on October 02, 2024 surrounded by family


>Bernice was born on September 11,1935 to Ida and Marcellus Heisler in Humboldt, Saskatchewan  Canada.  The youngest of four children, the family immigrated to Vancouver, Washington when she was Five.  Living with family there until they moved to Portland, Oregon.  After graduating from Immaculata High School, she went on to study nursing at Providence School of Nursing, becoming a RN.   After graduation, she landed her first job in the Emergency Room at Providence Hospital.  That is where she met Richard Maloney and they wed in 1959, going on to have two children, Joseph and Terrie.  She made it her mission to improve the lives of others.  She became head of the nursing staff and head of the Emergency Room at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital. There she met a young DR. Al Torres.  Together they established a successful private practice, specializing in on job injuries, travel exams, and immigration physicals.  She retired in 2014 and enjoyed travel, time with Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  We will miss her greatly.

>Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Brothers Walter and Clarence, and Sister Florence, and her husband of 63 years, Dick Maloney. She is survived by Son Joe, daughter Terrie, five Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren .

>The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church.  There will be a Funeral mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7455 N Hodge Ave Portland, Or. 97203, Rosary at 10:45 AM, Mass at 11:00am, followed by a Celebration of life at the St Johns Bachelor Club,  8204 N  Central, Portland, Or. 97203
