Bennie's obituary
Bennie William Whiddon Jr. of Orlando, FL, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by curiosity, imagination, and a deep appreciation for the things that brought him joy.
Bennie, born August 15, 1950, was an avid reader with a particular love for science fiction, drawn to stories that stretched the boundaries of possibility. He found magic not only in books but also in the places that celebrated imagination—especially the Universal and Walt Disney World parks, which he visited with the enthusiasm of someone who never lost his sense of wonder.
Music was another thread woven through Bennie’s life, and the harmonies of The Andrews Sisters were a constant favorite. When it came to sports, he was a devoted fan through and through, cheering passionately for LSU and The Magic, celebrating every high and weathering every low with unwavering loyalty.
Bennie is survived by his wife, Becky Ann Whiddon; his sons Matthew Whiddon (married to Mariam) and Christopher Whiddon (married to Daphne); his granddaughter Leighton Whiddon; his sisters Stormy Blair (married to Jay Blair) and Marisa McDonald (married to Joel McDonald); and his brothers Christen Whiddon and Byron Whiddon. Each of them carries a piece of his spirit forward. He is also survived by Becky’s siblings, Dodie Ferachi, Larry Haley, and Linda Denham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie William Whiddon Sr. and Inez Hubert Whiddon, as well as his brother Garry Whiddon and sister Debbie Spiers. He was also preceded in death by Becky’s parents, Wilbur T. “Red” Haley and Mildred Morris Haley, and brothers-in-law John A. “Sonny” Ferachi and Lindon Denham.
Those who knew Bennie will remember his warmth, his humor, and the way he shared his passions with the people he loved. His absence leaves a quiet ache, but his memory remains bright in the stories, traditions, and moments he leaves behind.
