Bennie Joe Nelson II passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023 at his home in Hooks, Texas. He was 44.

Bennie was born August 13, 1978 in Texarkana, Texas to Tony Gray and Velma Nelson. He was a member of Prosperity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Willie Mae Gray.

He is survived by his fiancé, Brandi Jordan of Hooks, Texas; his father, Tony Gray of De Kalb, Texas; his mother and stepfather, Velma and Telly Griffin of Desoto, Texas; three children, Donta’ Nelson of New Boston, Texas, Cheyenne Nelson of De Kalb, Texas, and Myron Nelson of De Kalb, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, LaQuita and Devin Harrison of New Boston, Texas and Anita and Derick Taylor of Dallas, Texas; maternal grandparents, Bennie and Gladys Nelson of New Boston, Texas; paternal grandfather, Melvin Gray of De Kalb, Texas; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, three nieces, and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Prosperity Baptist Church in New Boston, Texas with Rev. David Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, Texas under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
