Benjamin's obituary

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Shadden, who departed from this world on October 21, 2024. Benjamin was born on June 2, 1936, and touched many lives during his 88 years on earth.

Benjamin was a man of exceptional character, displaying love and kindness to everyone he crossed paths with. A deeply respected role model to his family and community, active in many different outreach programs and charity, always extending a helping hand to those in need. His lessons of love, compassion, and family values continue to inspire all those who knew him.

Benjamin was born in Mannington, WV on June 2nd 1936. The last remaining of 13 children, he grew up working as a coal miner, before entering the United States Army and serving during the Korean War.

Benjamin is preceded in death by his wife Martha Shadden (née Coleman) of 43 years. As well as several brothers and sisters.

One of the most notable accomplishments of Benjamin's life was his ascension to 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, out of Fresno, California. This achievement was a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving his community and uplifting others.

Benjamin leaves behind his children, Danny, Jeremiah, Garrett, Clarke, Patricia, Mindy, and Tawnee. Grandchildren, Kyle, Marcus, Rory, Cora, Catherine, Michelle, Jesse, Haley, Crystopher, Madison, Lewis and Brandon, as well as nine Great Grandchildren, and dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews,  who knew him as: “Grandpa” or “The Old Man”.

Benjamin's life was a testament to his enduring strength and his unwavering commitment to his family. Having taken care of several adopted children throughout his life, as well as maintaining his love and passion for rescuing and conserving wildlife, he set an example of compassion for generations to follow.

While we navigate through the difficult path of his loss, we ask that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to a Masonic charity, or lodge in his memory. A celebration of life will be held at a date that is yet to be determined.
