Benjamin's obituary
Benjamin "Mags" Moraes, age 25, sadly passed away on September 11, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in Austin, Texas after a short battle with cancer. Ben was born on October 14, 1997 in West Point, Mississippi but spent most of his childhood in Toms River, NJ, where he was a 2016 graduate of Toms River High School East. Ben was an avid soccer player and enthusiast who passionately followed Manchester United Football Club.
After graduating high school, Ben lived in Philadelphia and Chicago before settling down in Austin, Texas. Though his love for coffee started in Chicago, his passion grew while working as a barista at Epoch Coffee. While working there he became a manager at their Village location and helped create a space that reflected himself and the community.
He loved and was loved by his community deeply. Ben was a character, full of humor and wit, with an infectious smile that would light up any room and bring joy wherever he went.
Benjamin is survived by his parents, Jamie and Steven, brother Drew (Kelsey) Howard, sister Isabella (Kent) Zier, nephews Emery and Brady and nieces Elliot and Isla. He also leaves behind many other cherished family members including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved cat, Sisko.
Funeral services will be held on September 23 at 12:00 p.m. at Eternal Peace Funeral Home in Austin, Texas with a viewing from 12:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. and visitation from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. There will be a celebration of life for Benjamin on October 28, 2023 at Epoch Coffee-North Loop starting at 4:00 p.m.
