Benjamin's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Benjamin F Burton Jr., who left us on March 23, 2026 at the age of 85. Known by friends and loved ones as Frankie. He was born on October 23, 1940, to Benjamin F Burton Sr and Mildred (Gatchell) Burton in McKeesPort PA. He created a lifetime of memories and contributions that we will forever cherish.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen (Wirsch) Burton of 63 years, his son Steve Burton, and daughter Kristi (Burton) Berning . His 5 grandchildren, Gregory and Bailey (Cherry) Berning Jr, Franklin Berning, Thaddeus and Kallie (Flesh) Berning, Samantha Berning, Jacquilynn Burton. Great grandchildren, Jude, Isaiah, Julia and Ryder. His sister in law Margie Burton, nephew Kenny and Danielle (Click) Burton, neice Jenny (Burton)and Bill Pierce. And his great nieces and great nephew. The memories and lessons he leaves behind will live on through them.
Benjamin was sadly preceded in death by his son Brian Burton, brother Kenny Burton, his father Benjamin F Burton Sr., and his mother, Mildred (Gatchell)Burton.
Benjamin had an incredible zest for life. He found joy in the peacefulness of gardening and was an avid reader. His passion for bowling and playing softball until he was 80 years old. Above all, he had a deep faith in the scriptures, teaching the Bible every Sunday morning. He loved to call ALL of his family and friends at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and if you did not answer the call, he would call until he found you.
His life was marked by impressive achievements. He joined the Navy after graduating from Austintown Fitch high school in Youngstown, OH and became a submariner. After his call to serve his country he obtained a Masters in Engineering, which was not only a testament to his intellectual prowess but also his tenacity and dedication to his craft. He worked at several Nuclear Power Plants across the country and he retired from WPPS in Richland, WA. Benjamin was a constant source of inspiration to those around him.
Although we mourn his departure, we celebrate the wonderful life he lived. His laughter, love, loyalty, and wisdom will forever be etched in our hearts. Benjamin's legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, and his memory will always be a beacon of love and warmth in our lives.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday April 02, 2026, at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville, OH at 2:45 PM. Please join us as we gather to honor his life and lay him to rest.
