Benjamin's obituary
"On behalf of our family there are a few things we would like you to know about Uncle Benjie.
Ben, Benjie, Benjamin, depending on where you knew him from, depended on what you called him - was
a down to earth, good ole country boy. He was the same to everyone, everyday. He never met a stranger and he knew someone every where he went.
A simple grocery store run would turn from 5 minutes long, to 45 minutes long.
Uncle Benjie was kind of quiet, made friends for life, loved to hunt, and hang out with his friends (you know what I mean).
He loved his family, including his work family.
Uncle Benjie had his own way of doing things. He never said good-bye, it was “I’ll see ya”.
He was ALWAYS late to family functions, so we would have to tell him AND Jessi to be there at least
an hour earlier so MAYBE, just maybe they would be on time. One thing Uncle Benjie wasn’t, was a hugger.
If you were lucky, you got a “side hug” and a little tap on the back. If you knew uncle Benjie at all, you knew
about his bathroom habit. He would kill me if he heard me say this...yes, that’s right, he had a ritual.
Ever since he could walk he would undress and leave his clothes outside the door so that they would not stink.
My cousin Derek was and is a lot more like his dad than he knows.
He pretty much gave his dad the same grief that Uncle Benjie gave his mom, that’s called payback.
Benjie was so very proud of Derek for the man he has become.
He would always say to Jessi, “That’s a good young’n right there”.
Jessi, his fiancé, is and was the love of is life. She is one of us now.
Benjie loved her and loved her boys, Dylan and Alex, like they were his own.
Benjie always gave Jessi such a hard time about taking pictures. He would always tell her,
“Don’t post that, Sugar”, knowing good and well it would end up on Facebook but take the picture
in the end with her anyway. She is a large part of why we have such an awesome slide show today.
Benjie wasn’t one that liked the spotlight, but he was the shining light in Jessi’s life, & he in hers.
Together, they lived a busy life, both public servants in their community.
At the end of the day, over the last 7 years, they were able to come home to one another & come together
to share a beautiful life - & planning a future, cut short much too soon.
He won her heart from day one asking her if she wanted to go for a ride in his charger.
As struggling single parents, their early “date nights” consisted of dollar pizzas & late night talks
on the deck till the sun came up - little sleep but a lot of love & memories that will last a life time.
Lets not forget Benjie’s fur babies Taco, Reba Sue and Buddy. Truth be told they ruled the nest.
By far the most spoiled bunch of dogs you could ever meet. And lets not forget the cows.
You know you have some spoiled cows when they would meet Uncle Benjie at the fence
just to get a taste of his Sun Drop. That’s right he actually fed his cows Sun Drop.
Misty is Uncle Benjie’s little sister. Her and Uncle Benjie were really close growing up.
If being really close means tying to feed little sister dog food and tell her it was cereal.
He taught her a lot, like how to shoot a gun, fish and even how to fight.
Their conversations always started with, “I got something to tell ya, but you can’t tell anybody.”
They might not have always seen eye to eye all the time, but she knew no matter what he always he had her back.
She will always be proud to be known as Benjie’s little sister.
Joy, my mom and uncle Benjie’s oldest sister, had a unique type of relationship.
She was so excited and proud of Benjamin the day he called her and told her he had
been excepted into Highway Patrol school. She always talked about how much my
Nana would have been proud and surprised. As many of you know, Uncle Benjie’s birthday was last week.
The one thing he always asked for was for my mom to bake him a homemade cherry cheese cake.
She would always cook an extra one for him to take home and hide just for himself.
My mother was more like a second mom in addition to being the big sister.
Uncle Benjie,
There are no words that can even begin to express the loss we all feel today.
Over the past couple of days we’ve heard so many amazing stories of how you touched
the lives of so many. You were a big part of our family and things will never be the same without you here.
Be sure to watch over us from up there.
We love you and we’ll see ya."
