Durham, NC – Belinda Kay Burns Trutna, age 75, died in her home on November 26th, 2021. She was born on June 4th, 1946 to the late Edna Marie Belknap Burns and Homer Winford Burns.

Belinda was the definition of a strong-willed person who achieved everything she put her mind towards. After growing up in a small lead mining community in Flat River, Missouri, she was determined to find a different path that only she could define and achieve. The answer “no” was never in Belinda’s vocabulary when a challenge arose. Whether these challenges were related to her career, family, or her heroic fight against cancer, not only did she achieve her goals, but she also actually became an influence and inspiration to everyone she was associated with. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul who was always selfless; however, her actions were always performed with love and commitment in a way that brought her joy and purpose. Outside of spending time with others, Belinda also enjoyed taking on her own random projects, especially in the categories of baking, crafts, and home improvement.

Belinda is survived by her husband, Michael, her three children: Shannon, Shawn, and Shayne; and four grandchildren: Arlo, Josephine, Sebastian, and Olin; her sister Beverly Lackland; and her brother Bryan Burns.

To the friends and family she grew up with, Belinda will be remembered as one who seized the moment and who always combined humor with determination in everything she did. To her children she will be remembered for her unmatched courage, and how she provided them with a foundation of love and support that allowed them to become accomplished individuals. To her grandchildren she will be remembered as a grandmother full of love, who liked to spoil them every chance she could for them to feel special. Belinda will be missed beyond what words can describe and she will never be forgotten by anyone she met.

At Belinda’s request, memorial services will be attended by immediate family members only and privacy is appreciated during this time of loss. The Trutna family appreciates the thoughts and prayers that have been shared to date and those that will be shared in the future.
