Belete Fikru, age 62, lost his two year battle against Stage 4 Lung Cancer on November 28, 2023
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Belete attended Kokebe Tsebha before migrating to the United States in 1981 where he attended Penn Valley Community College before obtaining his Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Therapy at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. Belete Fikru worked as a respiratory therapist at the University of Kansas for 33 years where he touched the lives of his patients and coworkers, not only will he be remembered as a loving father, son, uncle, nephew, and cousin but also an outstanding, hardworking man who was taken too soon from us.
Belete was predeceased by his father, Fikru Damte, and his sister, Ethiopia Felema. He leaves behind his wife, Kidist Wondwossen-Fikru and two daughters, Aden and Mahlet Fikru, his four remaining siblings, Alma’s, Estegenet, Daniel, and Sahelwa and his mother, Woizero Amarech Belete. Belete leaves behind his beautiful garden, records, and loving cat Molly (Bojangles). May he rest in eternal peace.
His hobbies included traveling, gardening, and an appreciation for fine art and classical music.
