B.J.'s obituary

Craven, Bascom Junior (B.J.)

June 13, 1941 - July 29th, 2023

Bascom "B.J." Craven, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 following complications of Lewy Body Disease and Parkinson's.

B.J. was born in Asheboro, NC and graduated from Seagrove Highschool in 1959. He joined the US Air Force after graduation and honorably served his country in Vietnam. Following his Air Force service, he worked as a microscopist (a scientist who works with microscopes) with Burlington Industries and Lorillard Tobacco Company.

B.J. found joy and success in driving his Porsche competitively in autocross events where he was known for his sense of humor. He eventually met his wife through Porsche, and they have been members of the Porsche Club of America for over 50 years.

B.J. also loved music. He believed music brought people together and that music is therapy. He played many instruments but is most known for playing the piano by ear. If there was a piano around, that is where you would find him.

He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Ann, his daughter, Sarah, his son, Chad, his daughter-in-law, Kimberly, his granddaughter, Sutton, his sister, Ruth Butler (D.W.) and a niece, Lisa Greene. He was preceded in death by his father, Bascom Craven, his mother, Lillie Mae Craven and his sister, Tensie Greene.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) - Greensboro and Spring Arbor of Greensboro for the excellent care and compassionate treatment he received.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at West Market Street United Methodist Church. The church is located at 302 West Market Street Greensboro, N.C. 27401. Inurnment will take place at West Market Street United Methodist Church Columbarium.
