Barry's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Barry Jerome Hairston, Sr., who peacefully left us on November 30, 2024. Born on July 17, 1946, Barry spent a remarkable 78 years among us, showering loved ones with his wit, humor, and abundant love.

Though many knew him as "Buddy," he was most fond of his birth name, Barry. He had the incredible ability to bring joy and laughter into any room he entered. His innate sense of humor, coupled with his sharp wit, often left everyone around him in fits of laughter. But, beyond his jokester persona, at his core, Barry was a man of love. He cared deeply for his family and friends and was never shy to express his affection for them.

Barry married his high school sweetheart, Brenda, whom he shared many years together with. He's previously worked for the United States Postal Service and Meals on Wheels.  One of his hobbies was competing in weight lifting competitions but, his most favorite hobby was fishing. Barry's legacy continues through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who survives him.  His family was often the recipient of Barry’s pearls of wisdom, delivered with a pinch of humor, something they will carry with them forever.

Barry is survived by his two sons, Allen (Colleen) Hairston II of Plainfield, NJ, and Barry (Tammy) Hairston Jr. of Beckley, WV; two daughters, Relaina Hairston of Beckley, WV, and Ashley Hairston of Charleston, WV; two siblings, Donnie Hairston and Stephanie Hairston; nine grandchildren, Iysha (Erik) Ward, Shameka (Bishara) Tyler, Antonio Drakeford, Shalise Hairston, Allen (Nashira) Hairston III, Earl Croner Jr., Quashawn Hairston, Marques Hairston, and Tarel Hairston; 28 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Loise Hairston; his brothers Allen Edward Hairston I, and Ronald Kent Hairston; and his daughter Rhonda Ann Hairston.

As we navigate this period of grief, we remember Barry not with tears but laughter, keeping the essence of his vibrant spirit alive. His life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and wit, leaving an indelible impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

We encourage everyone who knew Barry to remember him in their own way, celebrating his life and the fond memories they shared with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
