Barry's obituary

Barry Francis Aneda

August 30, 1947 – June 10, 2025

Barry Francis Aneda, 77, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2025, while on a celebratory vacation with his grandson, Ryan and eight other graduating seniors of the Cheyenne Mountain Baseball team on Rose Island, Nassau, Bahamas—a fitting tribute to his lifelong love for family, fun, and adventure.

Barry was born on August 30, 1947, in New York, NY, to Charles and Vasilka Aneda. He is survived by his children: Barry Aneda Jr. and Anthony Box-Aneda of New South Wales, Australia, and his daughter Darlene (Aneda) and her husband Stephen O’Hearn of Colorado Springs, CO.

To his grandchildren—Sean, Megan, and Ryan O’Hearn of Colorado Springs—he was lovingly known as “Grampy,” a title he wore with pride and joy. They were the lights of his life, and he was their biggest fan. Whether it was Sean’s love for Disney and the theater, Megan’s creativity and passion for cosplay, or Ryan’s growing baseball career, Barry supported and celebrated them every step of the way.

Barry also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including in-laws Cliff and Joanne Garrett of Cranston, RI; Paula (Garrett) and Alan Brousseau of Warwick, RI; Susan (Garrett) Hamlin of Coventry, RI; Bart and Cheryl Garrett of Warwick, RI; and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death just five months earlier by his beloved wife, Sandra (“Grandma”), his sister-in-law’s Christine Ward of Coventry, RI, and Catherine Brown and her husband Donald of Warwick, RI.

Barry and Sandy were married in 1969 and made their home in North Kingstown, RI, where they raised their family. In 2006, they relocated to Colorado Springs to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Together, they were affectionately known as the “Dynamic Duo”—soulmates, best friends, co-adventurers, and partners in crime. They lived life to the fullest, whether riding Barry’s motorcycle into the sunshine, heading to the casinos (where Barry had a knack for the tables and snagging free drinks), or planning their next getaway—Hawaii being a favorite destination.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Barry led with kindness and humor. He instilled strong values and boundless confidence in his children, supported every milestone, and made every moment special. He was a proud, active member of the Pikes Peak Pats—a New England Patriots Fan Club—where he served and earned the title of “Director of Building Services,” hanging all Patriots swag and attending every event with enthusiasm.

Grampy wasn’t just a grandfather—he was everyone’s Grampy. His generosity, warmth, and infectious smile brought people together. He never met a stranger he wouldn’t soon call a friend and made every gathering more joyful with his presence. Though Sandy often “forced” him to attend parties, Barry inevitably became the life of the party—arriving early, staying late, and making sure everyone felt welcome.

To say he will be deeply missed by his family and vast circle of friends is an understatement. Barry lived a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. As his grandson Sean so beautifully put it: “You’re on the Soul Train now, Grampy—go meet Grandma.”

A Celebration of Life will be held in Barry’s honor on August 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Goat Patch Brewery, 2727 N Cascade Ave, #123, Colorado Springs, CO.
