Barbra's obituary
Barbra Allison Lyon Johnston, 73, passed away on May 30th, 2024, at 2:04 AM local time in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
Barbra was born on December 3, 1950 to Constance Lorraine Cook in Crawfordsville, IN. At 2 years old she was adopted by William A. Lyon and Thelma E. Lyon. After the death of her adopted mother when she was 14, she was subsequently adopted by her step-mother, Mildred V. Lyon.
Barbra graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1968, and she went on to study Commercial art at the University of Cincinnati, finishing her degree at the University of Hartford.
In the fall of 1968, Barbra met Thomas Russell Johnston while at school in Cincinnati. They married on May 8, 1971. Barbra and Tom went on to have 3 children, Kara Emily (Johnston) Kharmah, Theodore Carlos Johnston and Alita Mariana Johnston.
Barbara loved to spend time reading, baking, sewing and playing Scrabble.
Barbra was predeceased by her husband Thomas R. Johnston. She is survived by her loving family; daughters, Kara Kharmah and Alita Johnston, son, Theodore Johnston, grandchildren Emily C. Johnston, Maya N. Johnston, Skylar R. Vatier, and Phoenix T. Vatier, and one granddog, Osla Johnston. She was surrounded by her two eldest granddaughters, eldest daughter, and her son during her transition to the next life.
Barbra donated her body for the betterment of science to the Anatomical Gift Program at the UMass Chan Medical School. A celebration of life will be held at the National Spiritual Alliance on June 15, 2024 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a memorial fund to pay for a memorial stone.
