Barbara Jean (Bigelli) Thomas, a most loving mother, wife, sister, sister-in-law, auntie, cousin, friend. The loyal and responsible daughter of the late Gene and Celia Bigelli. Generous, strong, and strong-willed, Barbara grew up on Federal Hill with her parents and two younger mischievous and loving brothers. She graduated from Central High School and she worked at Fleet Bank (now Bank of America) in Providence for almost 50 years; she still counted Central classmates and former bank colleagues among her friends. She and her husband of 41 years, Douglas G. Thomas, lived in North Providence. Together they enjoyed Red Sox baseball, warm winters in Florida, adventures in Alaska, Mexico, Europe, Martha’s Vineyard, and Ithaca, NY. In her retirement, Barbara’s cooking and her Christmas spirit were both sources of pride and joy for her whole family. She is remembered and greatly loved by her only daughter, Alison Thomas, and her son-in-law, Rich Bindell, of Washington DC. Her entire family will continue to celebrate her life and honor her memory - her brothers Bob and Richard, her sisters-in-law Angela and Chris, her sister-in-law Nancy and brother-in-law Lewie. She also leaves her nieces Melissa Murphy, Beth Hughes, Kelly Reitman, Shelley Bigelli, Stephanie Bigelli, and Missy Bigelli; her nephews, Rick Bigelli, Bob Bigelli, David Bigelli, David Reitman, Jay Murphy, and Craig Hughes; her great nieces and nephews Sydni, Ella, Abby, Cole, Sophia, Lila, Maya, Jack, Amelia, Connor, Brielle, and Cameron. Her generosity and love will be missed and will inspire her family. We thank the nurses and doctors who cared for her, for Covid patients (and all patients), and ask that any donations in her memory be made to getusppe.org. This organization raises funds to provide adequate protective equipment to doctors, nurses, and workers on the frontline of health crises.
