Background
Barbara Dianne Lemke Richards left her family’s dairy farm in 1967 with aspirations to become a nurse. She served in the neonatal ICU for 4 years before a life-altering event changed the trajectory of her career path. This life altering event was the birth of Geoffrey, who was originally predicted to not be able to communicate and ultimately defied the odds of what doctors expected him to be capable of. Barbara set forth with her wealth of knowledge from nursing school to provide the best possible care for Geoffrey in a time when individuals with special needs were misunderstood and excluded more often than not. She and her husband, George, have cared exclusively for Geoffrey throughout his almost 41 years of life (so far), but a time is soon approaching when Geoffrey will need to find an alternate living environment
We know Barbara would want nothing more than to have Geoffrey’s extended lifetime care be as well-supplemented as possible. This is why, in lieu of a memorial service or flowers, the Richards family (Barbara’s husband George, and daughters Jenni and Danica) ask that you consider donating. All funds received will be placed into a trust specifically for Geoffrey’s long-term housing, daily needs, and medical care so that he may continue to live a happy, healthy life. Contribute
