Barbara Ellen Newman, age 68, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at her residence in Glendale, Arizona. She was born on November 8, 1952 to the late Jesse and Pearl (Storm) Carter in Dwight, Illinois. On 11/20/1968 she married Larry Newman in Alton, Illinois. Barbara worked for many years as a Correctional Officer in Ogle County before moving to Arizona and running her restaurant, Carrie's Cafe, for almost 30 years. She enjoyed taking trips and spending time with family. She equally enjoyed sitting in her chair, as she scrolled through Facebook while watching (or having it on at least), a Lifetime movie or a crime show.
Barbara is survived by her four loving children, Bruce (Shanin), Amber (Rich), Debbie (SJ), and Mary (Nick); 8 siblings, Jesse (Mary), Fred (Dena), Joe (Greg), Mike (Colleen), Gaylynn (Randy), John (Maureen), Vernon (Lisa), and Ken (Tracy); 10 grandchildren, Krystofer, Layne, Morgyn, Annabella, Alyvia, Sonja, Manuel, Cristian, Jaiden, and Jordyn; 4 great grandchildren, Mya, Myra, Myrella, and Myribella; and so many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry; her parents, Jesse and Pearl; and her sister, Deb.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in both Arizona (5/29/21 at 3p) and Illinois (6/26/21 at 3p). In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's honor may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 9435 W. Peoria Ave, Peoria, AZ 85345. Online condolences can be given at www.caminodelsol.com.
