Barbara Anne McGill, 54, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2024.

Born in Jersey City, Barbara moved with her parents and older sisters to 4th Avenue in Belmar as a young child, where she was a lifelong resident. A true Belmar girl, Barbara loved spending time at the beach and could often be found dancing and singing to live local music, enjoying time with her many wonderful friends, and was usually with at least one of her loving siblings.

Barbara graduated from Manasquan High School and spent nearly 20 years as a dedicated member of the Career Services department at Monmouth University, where she helped countless students and interns.

Barbara found joy in being surrounded by her big, loud, crazy, loving family. She was always happiest when spending time surrounded by her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and especially her son Luke, whom she loved more than anything.

Barbara always had a way of making everything fun, especially the holidays. She loved Christmas and Halloween and could always pick out the best pumpkin in the patch, and most beautiful Christmas tree. She’d never let you forget that the Great Pumpkin, Rudolph, Frosty, or another holiday classic was on TV, calling to make sure you were watching too.

Barbara will be remembered for her infectious smile, vibrant personality, overwhelming capacity to love, and her ability to start a “Sweet Caroline” sing-along—a special talent she inherited from her Aunt Marion.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Joe McGill; sisters, Joanne McGill Bartsche and Beth McGill Connors; niece, Katie Bartsche; godparents, Marion and Joe Slattery; and her cherished beagle, Jake.

She is survived by her loving son, Luke McGill; brother, Joe McGill; sister and brother-in-law, Trisha McGill and Mike Yucius; nieces and nephews, Danielle Bartsche, Kelsey and Collin Yucius, Richard and Justin Connors; and Luke’s father, Justin Slattery.

Visitation and a celebration of Barbara’s life will take place on Monday, October 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, NJ.
