Sunrise: September 28, 1961 – Sunset: January 24, 2026
Barbara Louise McLaughlin, affectionately known and deeply loved as “Mama,” passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Barbara was a devoted mother, a source of strength, and the heart of her family. Her life was marked by unconditional love, quiet resilience, and a nurturing spirit that touched everyone she encountered. She had a gentle way of making people feel seen, safe, and cared for, and her presence brought comfort even in the most difficult times.
Above all, Barbara cherished her role as a mother. She was the proud mother of nine living children:
Courtney Skinner, Claudia Skinner, Terri Skinner, Michael Skinner, Heather McLaughlin, Ahmad McLaughlin, Larry McLaughlin, Brittany McLaughlin, and Crystal McLaughlin.
She was also a loving bonus mother to Angela Hutson and Monica McLaughlin, whom she embraced as her own.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ophelia Cooks (née Allen); her father, Albert Nelson of Midland, Texas; her husband, Clyde McLaughlin; her sister, Ira Jean Wilson Fitzpatrick; her brother, Arthur James; and her sister, Dorothy Mae Brown.
She is survived by her loving siblings: Wilma Green, Cecil Davis, and Billy Paul Skinner; her devoted children and bonus children; 55 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; along with extended family and countless loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Barbara will be remembered for her warm heart, her perseverance, her quiet strength, and the love she poured into her family every day. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains alive in every memory, every lesson, and every act of love she instilled.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Barbara is now at peace, free from pain, and resting in eternal love.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
We love you, Mama.
