Barb's obituary

Barbara "Barb" Judd, 78, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on November 9, 2022 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Barb was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. Our mother was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family.

Barb was born on November 19, 1944 to Floyd and Clarice Kohl in Pigeon, Michigan. After graduating from Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker High School, she landed her first job with the Pentagon as a result of winning a statewide typing contest. While living in Washington D.C. she met Richard[Dick] Judd, and they wed, going on to have 3 children; Tom, Tanya, and Christine (Chris). Soon after Tanya’s birth the family moved to Florida, where Chris was born. Barb worked for almost 3 decades at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center retiring as a Business Manager in the Procurement Division. She then went on to work for the State of Florida for another 10 years before retiring.

Barb excelled at propping up her children and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was keeping book at Tom’s countless baseball games, nursing Tanya through a myriad of injuries, or through baking thousands of cookies with Chris’ elementary school students, she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Barb was an avid baker and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her kitchen making 27 different types of cookies at Christmas or spoiling her grandchildren rotten (we will never forget Nana Camp!). We will miss her greatly. Barb was predeceased by her parents Floyd and Clarice Kohl, her brother Richard Kohl, and her husband Dick. She is survived by her son Tom Judd along with his wife Niki and son Mason; her daughter Tanya Judd and her son Dylan Pucella; and her daughter Christine Thornton, her husband James, and their children Jared and Jordan Thornton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to “Barb’s Bakers”, a fund established the Children’s Home Society of Florida and their Partnership Schools Program hosted at Sabal Palm Elementary where Chris is a teacher. This fund will be used to support the students of Sabal Palm Elementary where Chris works and Barb volunteered with her students. Every Christmas holiday, Barb would come to Sabal Palm Elementary loaded with pre-baked, holiday-themed cookies of Christmas trees, Santa Claus faces, wreaths, candy canes, with pounds of sprinkles and icing in EVERY color to decorate, and lots of hugs to share with each of Chris’ students. Chris says “I would watch her patiently work with each student as they created their masterpieces and laugh as they gobbled them down. My siblings and I decided to keep Barb’s tradition alive by starting the Barb’s Little Bakers club in her honor at Sabal Palm CPS for the students to find their personal joy through baking. With these funds, we hope to purchase a mobile cooking cart that would allow cooking demonstrations and skills to happen in the classroom that will inspire a love for cooking/baking in the Sabal Palm CPS students that Barb had. We know that “Barb’s Little Bakers” will carry on her memory and will definitely have Mom/Nana smiling down on all of us from above. You can donate in one of 2 ways:

  1. Go to this website: https://secure.qgiv.com/event…     which will take individuals to Sabal Palm CPS’s web page to donate on behalf of our mother, Barbara. There is a comment box toward the end of the page where it says “Share why you’re supporting Community Partnership Schools".   There you should reference that this donation is specifically towards Barb’s Little Bakers.
  2. Mail a check to Chris Thornton, 3068 Whirlaway Trail, Tallahassee, FL 32309.  Checks should be made out to the Childrens Home Society of Florida

Memo line: (very important) Sabal Palm CPS, Barb’s Little Bakers

There will be a celebration of life with lots of memories to share and plenty of Elvis tunes on March 25, 2023  in order to give time for friends and loved ones time to travel to join us in Tallahassee to remember her. If you would like to receive information about our celebration, please leave a message on this site or email Tanya at tanyajuddpucella@gmail.com.
