Barbara Joan Smith (Nee Wise) age 88, of Orlando, Florida formerly of Homewood, Illinois, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024. Born on September 15, 1935, in Springfield, Illinois, Barbara was the daughter of Alfred and Lucille Wise.
Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Charles Smith; beloved mother of the late Kathryn (the late Chris) Erwin, Karen (Paul) Stott, Kendall Smith, Christopher (Ruth) Smith, and Brent (Frances) Smith; cherished grandmother of Laura Sheridan, Jacquelyn (Brett) Dodson, Christine (Travis) Hull, Kelly (William) Martin, Kevin (Bridget) Smith, Rebecca (Eric) Nelson, Andrew (Emily) Smith and Chloe Smith; and proud great grandmother of Hendricks and Liam Hull, Edison and Cole Smith, Ruby, Cora, and Elliot Martin, Tommy Smith, and Callie Nelson; dear sister of the late Beverly and Bonnie; cherished sister In law to Janet Bluestein (nee Smith), fond aunt and great aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth and her daughter Kathryn.
Barbara was a homemaker, bookkeeper and involved in many organizations over the years. Her husband Ken was President of the Dolton-Riverdale Jaycees and Barbara founded the Dolton Jayshees! She was an avid genealogist tracing the family roots back to the earliest times in America and was president of the South Suburban Genealogy Society. She was a very accomplished seamstress making clothes for charity events and fashion shows, she even once made all the bridesmaid gowns for her daughter’s wedding.
