Barbara's obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Orton Waite, age 80, of Kernersville, North Carolina. Barbara passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born on April 1, 1945, Barbara was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles A. and Frances R. Orton. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, Nelson Waite; children Tim West (Kathy) and Theresa Morton (Tommy); granddaughters Lauren Morton, Erin Morton, and Leah Clubb (Chris); four great grandsons Landon, Aaron, Ryan and Noah Clubb; sister June Morris (Jacky); brother Fred Orton (Sue); Nelson’s children Robin McIlwaine (Michael), Tammy Klubek (Greg) and Richard Waite; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love and resilience will live on through every generation she helped shape.
Barbara’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a dedicated member of Bethel Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, she found joy in serving others, participating in the women’s ministry, and offering a kind word and warm smile to everyone she met. In quieter moments, she enjoyed the simple joys of life: using her green thumb to work with plants, the companionship of her cherished dog Max, the art of crocheting and cross-stitch, and time spent with family and friends. Her handmade gifts, crafted with care and love, brought comfort and beauty to many.
Despite her prolonged health struggles, Barbara’s spirit never dimmed and her faith and love never wavered. The family would like to express a special thanks to their fellow church members, friends and neighbors that helped them so much these past few weeks.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Bethel Methodist Church on Saturday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice, or a local animal rescue in Barbara’s memory.
