Barbara's obituary

Our beloved Barbara Horton entered into God’s Kingdom on July 14, 2022 after a courageous, twenty-year battle with Parkinson's disease.

Barbara was born to George and Roxie Jenness on December 27, 1947 in Wilmington, NC. In 1976, Barbara met Walter (“Walt”) Horton, a match truly made in heaven. Barbara & Walt married in 1977 and went on to have 2 children, a daughter, Shanna Grable (Jay) and a son, Christian Horton (Danielle), and two grandchildren, Walker Horton (4) and Savannah Grable (2).

Barbara led a career as a hairstylist where she worked behind the chair for 48 years. In 1994, Barbara and her sister, Judy, would go on to open the doors of Unique Tender Care where she extended her arms to love on so many babies and then watch them grow.

Barbara was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. She loved the church and loved sharing the love and warmth of our savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. She was a loyal member of Northside Church for nearly 30 years and previously she belonged to Freedom Baptist and Calvary Baptist Churches. In each of these places of worship, Barbara loved to worship the Father by singing His praises.

In addition to her parents, Barbara joins her brother, Gene Jenness and nephew, Eugene “Bud” Jenness in Heaven. She is survived by many loving friends and family, including her sister Judy (“Mama Judy”) Ramsay, nieces and nephews, Rusty (Kristy), Jeff (Cary), Lisa (Richard), Wendy (Jeff (d.)), Melissa (Zack) and Angela (Todd) and Brian, as well as 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at 6:30 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Northside Church,  2501 N. College Road.  The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 7:30 PM.

Barbara's family wishes to thank everyone for their generous outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Any memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org) or Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org)
