Barbara's obituary
Barbara was born in Spalding, NE on May 6, 1938, the third child of Helen (Sullivan) Weber and Christopher August Weber.
After graduating from the Spalding Academy in 1955, Barbara earned a RN degree in 1959 from St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Omaha, and was subsequently employed by St. Catherine's as a surgical scrub nurse.
Barbara met her future husband, Edward Healey, during her first year of nurse's training and on October 10, 1960 they were married in Ancon, Canal Zone where Dr. Healey was an intern at Gorgas Hospital.
During the next six years, Barbara worked as a nurse at Gorgas Hospital and the Albrook Clinic, CZ. and bore both of her children, Denis, in 1962 and Catherine, in 1964.
In 1967, the family moved to Coco Solo, CZ where Dr. Healey accepted a position as a general surgeon.
Over the course of 25 years living in her much loved Panama, Barbara traveled throughout Central and South America, as well as to Europe and the Caribbean.
In the 1970s, Barbara became interested in flying, and she earned a private pilot license, a commercial license, her instrument rating and her flight instructor license, after which she taught flying for several years.
After her husband retired from federal service in 1985, they moved to Cape Coral, Fl., where they would reside for thirty-six years.
During those years, Barbara and Edward enjoyed Florida's fishing, weather and life style. And they traveled...spending over two years in the American West, many months in Ireland, Spain and Portugal . They also enjoyed cruises and nearly two years in the dozen countries of Southeast Asia.
In the late 1980s, Barbara and Edward's son graduated from Creighton University with an M.D. degree, as had his father, and their daughter graduated from the U of F with a J.D. degree.
Their son married Lora Meline in 1990, who gave Barbara three wonderful grandsons, Connor, Kevin and Garrett, upon whom she doted.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Moran and Patricia Ray, and two brothers, Christopher and Richard Weber. Barbara is survived by her son, her daughter, three grandsons and her husband of 60 years.
