Barb's obituary
Barbara Habets (Koontz) – 1949-2025
Barbara (Barb) Habets, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 29, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born on November 7, 1949, in Conrad, Montana, to Marjorie and Clarence Koontz.
Barb grew up in Montana and went on to attend Montana State University, where she earned a degree in mathematics and met the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Habets. The two married in 1970 and built a life together filled with love, laughter, and family. In retirement, Barb and Mike traveled extensively across the US, and split their time between Montana and Mesa, Arizona over the past four years. They enjoyed spending time with friends new and long-aquainted.
A devoted mother to her three children, Barb found great joy in raising her family. She was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a strong and dedicated partner in the family farming business. She adored being a grandmother and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. She was also a gifted crafter, creating beautiful handmade treasures of all kinds. Her creativity, thoughtfulness, and skill were evident in everything she made. She had a contagious sense of humor and brought fun and laughter wherever she went.
Barb is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Cindy Peterson and Stephen Habets; her grandchildren, Gabbie and Alex Peterson, and Anson, James, and Elayna Habets; and her brothers, John and Dave Koontz. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Habets, her parents, Marjorie and Clarence, and her stepfather Wendell Thacker.
Barbara’s kindness, love, and laughter will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. A celebration of life will take place in Conrad, Montana at future date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to a charity of their choice.
