Barbara's obituary
Our precious mother, Barbara, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 9, 2024. While we will miss her joyful spirit, her smile, and her sense of humor, we will carry on with the love of life she instilled in us.
She had a wonderful sense of adventure, learning to scuba dive in her 50’s, and at the young age of 61, went rappelling down a cliff in South Africa. She was spontaneous, loved traveling with family, and was always up for having fun! In between her adventures, she loved gathering with friends and family, to play hands of cards. She loved the close group of friends she made when she lived in her condo, and enjoyed so many fun afternoons around a card table with them.
Momma had such a gift for making people feel loved and welcome in her home. From friends and family, to the foreign exchange students our family hosted, Momma made sure we always had room for one more at the table. She was an amazing cook, and her craft for making homemade biscuits is unmatched.
But of all the things she was gifted at, we struggle to find a word that adequately describes how beautifully creative Momma was. From sewing our dance costumes when we were girls, to decorating hallways of our high school for homecoming week, to making custom drapes for Charlotte’s home in South Africa, the only thing greater than her imagination was her ability to make those visions a reality. Our Momma could make the most beautiful things out of whole cloth. She was a gifted artist and painter, and she loved sharing her talent with friends and family.
She wholly cherished being our mother. There has never been a moment we didn’t know that we were loved fully, and unconditionally. But, later in life, Momma discovered her greatest calling… being a Grandmommy. When Charlotte adopted Ruthie, Momma’s life took on new meaning. We are so very blessed that Ruthie has grown up able to spend so much time with her.
We will fill the hole left in our hearts with our sweet memories of her, and hope you’ll share with us your stories and memories that we may not know.
According to her wishes, there will not be formal services, but we ask that you go do something fun, try something new, or have some grand adventure in her memory, knowing that she would have loved to be with you for it!
