Barbara's obituary
Barbara Jane DuMont, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend transitioned from this life on February 16, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 15, 1948, in Newark, NJ. Daughter of August Louis and Doris Elizabeth Trautz, Barbara, the quintessential "Jersey Girl," called Cary, NC home for the last 30 years. She radiated warmth and love, profoundly impacting the lives of those fortunate enough to be part of her world.
Barbara found her lifelong companion in William John DuMont in Livingston, NJ. Bill often referred to her as “a swan on the lake”. Together, over 51 beautiful years, they built a family centered around love and devotion.
A dedicated and loving mother, Barbara is survived by her husband William John and children Brian Whitaker with his wife Summer, Elizabeth Love with her husband Matt, and Robert William “Bobby”. She leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of 8 grandchildren, Autumn, Austin, Skylar, Olivia, Dylan, William, Reed, and Brielle. In addition to her immediate family, Barbara is survived by her brother, William “Billy” Trautz and his wife Gina, along with a myriad of extended family members. Barbara poured her heart into her family, creating a home filled with laughter, support, and cherished moments. Barbara had a special fondness for Yanni's music, the soft glow of candles, indulging in hot baths, and anything adorned with hearts, which she collected and displayed throughout her home, symbolizing the love that bound her family together.
Barbara had an undeniable passion for cooking, transforming simple ingredients into delicious dishes that brought joy to those around her. Equally, she held a deep and abiding love for Kure Beach, finding solace and happiness in the calming rhythm of the waves and the warmth of the sandy shores. These two loves intertwined, creating a tapestry of memories that will forever define the essence of Barbara's spirit.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Brian and Ronnie, as well as her beloved collie, Lassie. In their memory, she now joins them in eternal peace.
The legacy of Barbara Jane DuMont will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of sharing in her life.
