Barbara's obituary
She left behind her daughters, Jennifer, Brittnay, and Jillian; her brothers John and Jim; as well as her grandchildren Christian, Katie, Everly, Blake, and Easton. She also is survived by her ex-husband and our father, Robert Collins. We are grateful for their continued friendship beyond their marriage.
We find comfort in knowing that she did not have to suffer, but her unexpected passing left us in shock and yearning for more time with her. We know that she missed her parents Norman and Jean Cook, and we take solace in knowing she was able to have the reunion she always dreamed about.
Barbara was born in Buffalo, New York and was an avid and loyal Buffalo Bills fan who rarely missed a game. The Buffalo Bills brought her joy (and anxiety), and she loved talking about them throughout the years whether they were good or bad. Though she lived in South Florida for many years, she missed the changing seasons from her childhood. She loved Buffalo, loved the fall, loved the snow, and she loved the Bills!
Barbara was a registered nurse practicing in obstetrics for many years until she retired to care for her children. She was one of kind with a heart of gold and a loving personality. She would give you the shirt off her back. Everyone who knew her will miss her large personality filled with humor, sarcasm, quick wit, and kindness. She made an impact on all the people she came in contact with and was greatly loved by many.
She absolutely loved animals. Her pets were incredibly special to her, and she loved each and every one of them wholeheartedly. She not only cared for her pets, but cared for cats and animals that didn’t have a home. She fed them, pet them, and gave them love as if they were her own. She would even talk to a frog outside the window while taking her bath. All the cats in the neighborhood knew where to go to get food, water, and a good scratch behind the ears.
She had a way with decorating. Our home growing up—and all her homes—were beautiful despite your own taste. They were warm, welcoming, comfortable, and always a place you wanted to be. Just don’t mess anything up! She was impeccably clean and organized, something that annoyed us when we were little but now something we can only strive to be.
Her greatest accomplishment in our opinion was being the absolute best mom anyone could hope for. Her selflessness, caring nature, strength, encouragement, endless giving, and unconditional love made our lives as close to perfect as you can get. She absolutely loved and adored her grandchildren. She was the best moo. In our opinion, seeing all her girls become moms were her proudest moments.
We have so many great memories to reflect upon. Like dancing and signing. (She loves the oldies and country). Her home-cooked meals will be remembered, and we will carry on her recipes for our families to enjoy. Her laugh was infectious, often loud, and undeniably contagious. Man, will we miss that laugh.
Barbara, Mom, Moo: We miss you so very much. We know you are looking down on all of us and guiding us through life. One couldn’t ask for a better angel to look after us. Rest peacefully, until we meet again. We love you with all our hearts!
