30 years ago, I  met one of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known – my wonderful friend Barbara. We met in the  most unusual way, side-by-side as two moms checking out a private Lutheran school for our sons who were both about to start kindergarten. Neither of us could have known that in that moment, we were beginning a friendship that would last a lifetime.

From that day forward, we became very good friends. Over the years our boys grew up together. We spent countless vacations in Mexico with our boys, making memories filled with sunshine, laughter, margaritas, and the joy that a true friendship brings.

Barbara had a way about her that was beautiful and rare. She never judged anyone – – ever !  She accepted people exactly as they were, with kindness, understanding, and a heart wide open.  Whether you were celebrating your best day, or struggling with a bad day because of bad choices you thought you made, she always listened and made you feel seen, respected and loved.

She had this quiet strength  that did need to be announced, but was always there when you needed it most. She taught me so much about being open-minded, having patience and what it means to truly be a friend.

I will miss her smile, her laughter, and the way she would always make me feel like we never skipped a day, even if we hadn’t spoken for a couple of months. But more than anything, I will carry her spirit with me – – Her compassion, her friendship, and the countless fun beautiful, sometimes crazy memories we shared.!

30 years of friendship with Barbara isn’t nearly long enough. But I will be forever grateful that life brought Barbara into mine.  She was one of a kind – – and I will always love her and always miss her.

But when I think of Barbara, I laugh and smile at so many situations we got into, that were funny later.  Like getting stuck and digging the car out of the sand and things like that.  We were great traveling partners, we enjoyed every minute and laughed all the time.  We loved going on girl trips, wineries were one of our favorites! And we loved our Easter break every year, vacationing with our boys in Mexico. Barbara, you are the best.!

Love, Brenda

Thanks for the memories, Barbara
