Our son, Axel Åke Rydeen, died unexpectedly in his sleep in June 2021 at 2.5 yrs of age. As our family continues to navigate life without Axel’s physical presence, we would love to memorialize him by contributing a piece of equipment to a park project within our community.
The Keewaydin’s school playground was the first and most visited park for Axel during his short life. We were amazed how he easily climbed around with confidence and bravely went down the big slide on his own. He loved the “Rainbow park.”
The Minneapolis Park Board is constructing a new community playground near the school site this summer. We plan to have a xylophone installed in memory of Axel. The anticipated cost of the equipment is $7,000.
We would be honored to have the community’s and loved ones’ support of this project to ensure that there is a place in our neighborhood where Axel can always be thought of.
This year has been one of many transitions for our family. This includes meeting many new families in the community when our daughter, Ingrid, started kindergarten at Wenonah. It saddens us that our new friends never got to meet Axel, but we want everyone to know about him and our family as a whole. We want him to be thought of and remembered in a way that also honors play exploration for children and our community.
Please check back to this site as plans are still being pursued for a t-shirt fundraising portion and links will be available soon. We’d love for you to consider purchasing a t-shirt in honor of Axel to show others your love for Axel and to wear for the opening ceremony.
We hope to contribute to the grand opening ceremony with donors present to celebrate Axel's life and unveil the xylophone installed in his honor. Details to follow closer to the completion of the project.
