Austin's obituary
Austin Kershaw, a man of unmatched spirit and compassion, passed away on October 16, 2024. Born on February 25, 1982, Austin spent his life infusing every moment with love, kindness, and a distinctive wit that drew all who knew him closer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Danielle Kershaw, and their beautiful children, son Davis and daughter Marlena. His legacy also continues in the hearts of his loving parents, Jim and Cindy Kershaw, and sister, Amber (Stuart) MacDiarmid, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his grandmothers Marie Baker and Beatrice Owens, grandfathers Marvin Brown and Tony Ybarra, aunt Sunny Kershaw, uncles John, Larry Kershaw, and Richard Berg, and cousins, Jeremy Brown and Chalisa Lewis; their memories remain etched in his life story.
Austin graduated from South Kitsap High School in 2000 and in 2003, he began a fulfilling career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In 2005, Austin married the love of his life, Danielle, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. After a stellar career, Austin retired from PSNS in 2023.
A lover of life's adventures, Austin had a unique perspective on the world. His philosophy, that life is indeed an adventure, was demonstrated through the way he lived each day. His radiant personality encouraged those around him to live with abandon, to embrace the unexpected, and to find joy in the simple moments.
Traveling to places like Japan, Hawaii and Mexico brought Austin immense joy. Back home, he lived life to the fullest, reconnecting with nature through camping, and expressing his creativity playing drums and guitar. His interests were plentiful and varied, including a passion for music, often finding solace in his bandmates over the decades from Madcap, Kilkahl, and Trailer Park Tweed, to South Kitsap Infidels and Life Hypothesis; as well as countless other musicians. He was an ardent fan of Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Slipknot, Slayer, Johnny Cash, Devin Townsend, and of course, the Seahawks.
Austin believed in living an active life, often found running or at bootcamp classes. A man of simple pleasures, a cold Rainier in a bottle was his favorite drink. Always involved in his community, Austin fostered rescue dogs through Three Little Pitties Rescue, volunteered as an assistant coach for Bremerton Soccer Club, and was a proud participant of the Leadership Kitsap Foundation.
Among Austin’s significant accomplishments was the release of a solo album titled "Overdue to Evolve" with his band, Life Hypothesis. A testament to his creativity and dedication, this work served as a beacon of his undeniable talent and his zest for exploration.
Austin's legacy extends beyond his musical achievements. He championed a message of acceptance and joy, shaping the lives of those who had the pleasure to know him. The way he lived his life, treating each person with kindness and understanding, will long be remembered and cherished.
It is with heavy hearts that we bid Austin farewell. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. Yet, we take solace in the fact that his principles and teachings live on amongst us. Austin's life served as a testament that one can make a profound impact, simply by embodying love and kindness. He is deeply missed and will forever be loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
