Austin's obituary

It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we announce the passing of Austin J. Hughes, who tragically lost his life on May 20, 2025 at just 22 years old. Austin was caught in the crossfire of a cartel battle, an unimaginable and senseless act that has left his family, friends, and community devastated.

Born on June 7 2003, Austin grew up with a free spirit and a love for adventure. He thrived outdoors — quadding, mudding, and exploring nature were some of his favorite pastimes. Austin had a gift for turning ordinary days into unforgettable memories and was happiest surrounded by the people he loved.

Austin’s laughter, loyalty, and big heart left a mark on everyone who knew him. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose presence brought warmth and joy into every room. Though his time with us was far too short, his impact will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

Austin is survived by his loving family: Martha Hughes, Stewart Hughes, and many relatives and friends who will always carry his memory.

A celebration of Austin’s life will be held on August 30th at Parkland Funeral Services, where family and friends are invited to share stories and honor the vibrant young man we will never forget.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Austin’s name.

Austin, you were taken from us too soon, but your spirit will forever ride with us down every dirt trail and under every open sky.
