Audrey's obituary

Audrey La Brocco Mihalcin, 67, of Columbia, Maryland, died peacefully at home of terminal stage cancer on January 21, 2024.

She was born in Staten Island, New York in June of 1958 to Mrs. Irmgard La Brocco and Mr. Richard La Brocco. Mr. La Brocco was an MSG for the U.S. Army for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. As an army family, they moved frequently until finally settling down in Columbia, MD, in 1971. Audrey attended Howard High School, graduating in 1976, and went on to study Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, after years of service as a volunteer firefighter. Audrey went on to gain a Master’s of Science in Business Administration at University of Maryland University College and held several important and successful roles within the Department of Defense and the Office of the Secretary of Defense for the United States. Audrey dedicated her life’s work to creating and testing armor for American soldiers.

Audrey was very passionate about the welfare of animals and spent her later years dedicated to helping rescued animals in shelters. Audrey’s favorite hobbies were gardening and sewing, both of which she shared as a past-time with Ronald.

We will miss Audrey every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved her.

Audrey was preceded in death by her father, Richard La Brocco. Audrey is survived by her best friend and partner, Ronald Mihalcin (69). Her mother, Irmgard La Brocco (91). Her son, Blaine Frank (40) and his partner Natasha Miranda (36), and her daughter Corinne Traub (37) and husband Peter Traub (32), and their two children, Luca (4) and Nico (2).
